The Daily News Longvipw. Washington Saturday. November 27, 1971 xThought he was trying to hustle me' Date with a hiiacker? .7 tlx (I 'PS rr- off she read the note stating the hijacker planned to set off a bomb if his instructions were not followed. Capt. William Scott, the 51-year-old pilot from Minneapolis, said he assumed the hijacker was still in the passenger cabin of the plane all the way from Seattle to Reno.

The stated destination of the hijacker was Mexico City. Stewardess Tina Mucklow, 22, Richfield, had been with the hijacker most of the time after the 36 other passengers and two other stewardesses were allowed to leave the plane in Seattle. After take-off from Seattle, she said she was ordered by the man to join the pilot, first officer William Rataczak of Burnsville, and second officer H. Anderson of suburban Minneapolis, in the cockpit. "We felt we had his confidence.

We made no attempt to impede the completion of his mission, if you will," Rataczak said. "He specified he wanted the money delivered in a knapsack. It was not," Rataczak said, noting one of the irritations that occurred while the plane was on the ground in Seattle. Another was a one-hour delay for refueling which seemed to make the hijacker impatient. The white cloth bag containing the money, the hijacker's own small leather bag which may or may not have contained a bomb and all other signs of the hijacker were gone when the plane taxied to a stop in Reno, Scott said.

Scott said he could not speculate whether the man would or would not have survived a parachute jump from the level and 200-mile per hour speed during most of the flight. The hijacker had ordered the rear MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) The stewardess first contacted by Northwest Airlines hijacker, said today she thought the note he gave her was a request for a date. "I thought he was trying to hustle me," said Florence Schaffner, 23, of Minneapolis. She said the middle-aged man was sitting in the rear seat of the plane, where the stewardesses normally take their places for take-off.

The man apparently parachuted 'from the airliner Wednesday night as it was flying between Seattle and Reno, after he had been given $200,000 ransom. "I stuffed the note in my purse and he motioned that I should take it out and read it," said Miss Schaffner, formerly of Gordyce, Ark. At the time the plane was taxiing for take-off, on a flight from Portland, to Seattle. She said during take door of the Boeing 727 opened shortly after take-off from Seattle. "We never heard from him again, but we assumed he was there," iScott said.

Rataczak said the crew was concerned about the hijacker's request for four parachutes two front packs and two back packs because "it seemed to be just enough for one hijacker and three pilots." Miss Mucklow who was in direct contact with the hijacker more than any other crew member, said she was "pretty nervous" through the ordeal. "He was impatient for a time, but never cruel, nasty or impolite to me in any way," she said. Scott said the hijacker did not specify any route to fly between Seattle and Reno. It was cloudy, so the possibility the hijacker had an accomplice to signal from the ground for a jump was discounted by Scott. When the rear door of the plane was opened in flight, the hijacker apparently tied himself to a seat to prevent being swept out the door, the pilot said.

"I hope he gets caught. I don't like this sort of thing," Scott said of his first hijack experience. Asked about prior hijack training for the crew members, Scott said, "I imagine we will be getting more training."
