Surviving( Orville are a brother, Ken in Bay Center, and four sisters, Betty, Grace and Nora, all in Montesano, and Luella in Grapeview, Wash. Because of distance and other circumstances, attending school consistently was sometimes a challenge. Nevertheless, he graduated from Wood High School in Wood, S.D., as class valedictorian in 1935.

In 1937, Orville and a friend moved to Washington, making the trip in a Ford Model that kept breaking down along the way. He settled in Shelton, and later Hoquiam, finding work in a sawmill. In 1942, Orville moved to Longview to work at the Reynolds Metals Co. aluminum plant. This is where he would meet Muriel Harvill, whom he would marry July 27, 1946.

Their marriage would last more than 65 years. They spent their life together living at the same residence on South Third Street in Kelso. In 1949 their first child, a daughter named Linda, was born. She was followed by a son, Monte, in 1953. As the years progressed, Orville worked his way as a laborer in the pot rooms to becoming a supervisor in the cast house.

He held this position until he retired at age 63 in January 1979. Orville was especially active in the Kelso Lions Club for more than 46 years, achieving 36 years of perfect attendance whether he was in Kelso or visiting other clubs while vacationing. He also was a member of the Kelso Elks and the Ancient Order of United Workmen. In his retirement years, Orville and Muriel traveled the country in three different RVs, visiting relatives and friends through their travels. They visited each of the 48 continental states and their capitals, in addition to Hawaii.

Besides traveling, Orville and Muriel collaborated with Orville's distant relative on an extensive family tree that dates back to the 1600s, writing their individual family and life histories, and spending winters for the past 28 years in Southern California and Arizona. They especially enjoyed visiting and spending time with their six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. One of Orville's passions was taking care of his yard and surrounding flowers for all to admire as they walked by. Likewise was his passion for maintaining the flowers in front of the clubhouse at the community they lived at during the winters in Apache Junction, Ariz. Orville is survived by his wife, Muriel; his children, Linda and Monte; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
